My Story & Mission

Resume – Markus Skupeika – 2025

After a successful professional basketball career with FIBA I took a new challenge of expanding my business career. Building companies and teams using the experience, contacts, and discipline instilled in me from my career as a professional basketball, collegiate basketball player, and top 50 Florida athlete at Chaminade-Madonna graduate, 1997.

I was fortunate enough to build four successful companies which all have an amazing group of people currently managing them since 2005.

This left myself with the time needed to discover new ways to contribute to society.

Going back to the court, I found myself being called to assist in coaching and developing younger athletes based on the skillset, honor and hard work my kids displayed on and off the court.

What led me to being a coach after retiring was witnessing the large skill gap within college, high school, travel leagues, and AAU in comparison young athletes learn in FIBA.

Training my two sons and other athletes I was called upon by coaches and parents to assist in reaching these athletes maximum potential. I was in shock by coaches and athletes having no understanding of methods we learned in FIBA.

There were common skill gaps younger athletes in Unites States were not being taught. As such, reacting to dynamic situations of what was presented both on offense and defense. In most cases athletes are being taught robotic routines, plays, and using shear force to create opportunities — rather than calmly and strategically teaching athletes how to exploit other teams weakness in that specific moment.

This style of play I implement into organizations is similar to programming and physics, which I have a firm understanding from my business career working with technology, manufacturing, and financial trading.

I am proud to say that the methods of coaching I instill in our athletes are recognized by the Archdiocese of Miami, in 2025. This was truly an honor for me in my career that weighs much heavier than any business or athletic accomplishment.

The Moment I Knew I Could Assist Young Athletes

Coaching younger athletes I discovered routines & cycles that would commonly occur. My players were taught to make quick decisions — “if this happens, then a player has these options.” Continuing this strategy within games I would notice a phase transition & waterfall effect causing the opposing teams to breakdown. These opponents would have to adjust with a new strategy.

While teaching foundational reactive fundamentals takes longer to incorporate within players. Opposing teams either did not yet know how to or have the patience to teach athletes the options available to them. I invested my efforts teaching athletes “foundational decision making” and the methods learned from FIBA.

No matter what strategy a team implemented our players would always have options and understand the highest probability outcome.

This is how the players and organizations I am involved with win and play calmly and strategically.

By incorporating practices causing players think and react to commonalities that happen on the court. I noticed the athletes I trained dramatically increased the odds of their teams winning championships. To the point where, I was asked by directors and coaches to implement this style of basketball into their organization.

Unknowingly, I assumed these basic basketball methodologies were being implemented at all levels of sport organizations. To put it bluntly they were not and this has brought me full circle back into the world of basketball. I now find myself re-engineering my methods of teaching organizations how to win, something I learned from my coaching apprenticeship at Duke University.

Below you will find my career, coaching, and player experience.
